BIO

New York-based Music Supervisor Alexandra Eckhardt is a rising talent in the film and television music space. Alex brings a unique perspective and distinctive set of tools to every project; her background as a Grammy Award-winning musician combined with her natural ability to tell stories through music makes her a multi-faceted, resourceful, and essential creative collaborator.

Alex’s career in music supervision began in a basement rehearsal studio in Brooklyn, where she first met and played in a band with multi-hyphenate Rebecca Hall. That rehearsal led to their next creative collaboration – the BAFTA-nominated Netflix feature film Passing, starring Tessa Thompson & Ruth Negga. Rebecca personally tapped Alex to curate the vivid, authentic sonic landscape for her critically acclaimed directorial debut, which premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. Alex was recognized by her peers with a nomination for a Guild of Music Supervisors Award the following year.

Along with her mentor, Linda Cohen, she supervised A.V. Rockwell’s Harlem epic A Thousand And One (Focus Features), which won the 2023 Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival. She has also cultivated recognition for her work on the sets of musical projects for both film and TV, including the Hulu series Up Here, featuring original songs by Kristin and Bobby Lopez, and the holiday feature Spirited for Apple TV+, starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, and featuring original songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Alex’s experience both in front of and behind the glass in studio sessions has proven to be indispensable on music heavy projects that feature on-camera performances.

Most recently, Alex was nominated for her second Guild of Music Supervisors Award for the seminal Peacock docu-series Kings from Queens: Run DMC & The Music That Changed The World. She also supervised Grammy-winner K’naan Warsame’s directorial debut Mother, Mother (Republic) winner of The FIPRESCI Prize at TIFF 2024, in addition to coordinating Isobel Waller-Bridge’s lush score.

Other recent projects include the music documentary The Best of the Best: Jazz From Detroit (Magic Circle Productions), the surf documentary Trilogy 22 (Apple TV+), the Emmy-nominated short film Morning Joy, and the Comedy Central feature film Office Race, starring Beck Bennett and Joel McHale.

Coming from a multi-generational musical family, music has always played an enormous role in Alex’s life. As an electric and acoustic bassist, she has worked with a wide range of artists including Sara Bareilles, Tariq ‘Black Thought’ Trotter of The Roots, Alan Menken, The Killers, and Patti Lupone, and has performed everywhere from the stages of Carnegie Hall to The Tonight Show and NPR’s Tiny Desk series. Alex regularly performs on Broadway for award-winning productions, including the Tony Award-winning shows The Band’s Visit, Hamilton, and Wicked, and currently holds the bass chair for the 2024 Best Musical Tony Award-winning The Outsiders, based on the iconic S.E. Hinton novel and film by Francis Ford Coppola.

Alex is represented by Jeff Jernigan at Kraft-Engel Management.
